Gratitude Meditation
A meditation for finding gratitude
Find a comfortable seat and find a position where you can have a tall lengthened spine.
Close your eyes or soften your gaze.
Begin to listen to the sounds around you, start from sounds outside and then bring your attention to sounds close by.
Let all the sounds fall to the background now as you begin to drop into your breath. Notice your inhales and exhales through the nose.
Feel your belly rise and fall in time with your breath. You don’t need to change your breath, the breath is breathing you automatically.
Feel your face start to soften, your shoulders soften, let your mind begin to soften.
Start to list all the things you are grateful for right now in your life. You can start with big things; loved ones, family, friends, pets, your job or hobbies and passions, your health.
Once you have listed the big things, start to list the less obvious things; having a roof over your head, being able to physically get from one place to another, the glass of water in front of you, birdsong, your favourite book, a pretty flower. It can be anything and everything.
Think about how long your list is and how grateful you are for the list. And then think about how grateful you are that you get to start again today, in this moment, every moment, you can start again and live your very best life and show up for the people and things that you love.
Sit with this feeling for a few minutes. Then slowly open your eyes with your new sense of vibrance for the day ahead.
